The role: CAT Analyst
• The position is for a catastrophe analyst, based in London, to join the EMEA Catastrophe Analytics team with a focus on the property line of business. • The candidate will contribute to renewal modelling projects on local and global accounts and engage on developing and deploying service offering to clients alongside our research teams and external academic partners. • Projects that the candidate may contribute to include bespoke projects in the Middle East & Africa region, such as in the recent example of helping to design parametric schemes & supporting clients on the evolving regulatory landscape with regards to climate change.
The responsibilities:
• Quantify the catastrophe risk to Gallagher Re client portfolios using vendor catastrophe models and Gallagher Re proprietary models.• Audit client data and portfolios to assess the completeness & accuracy for catastrophe modelling purposes.• Convert exposure data provided by clients into the formats required by catastrophe models.• Contribute to service offering development and distribution through collaboration with the research teams and external partners.• Engage with clients, reinsurers, brokers & actuaries on topics including model interpretation, portfolio management and bespoke analytical projects.• Understand and evaluate the impact of updates and revisions to models and the outputs produced.• Real-time reporting and analysis of natural disasters and supporting clients post-event.• Gain an understanding of risk management and the role of risk transfer methods, such as reinsurance.
The qualifications:
• A degree in numerate or hazard-related subject(s)• Experience in London/global insurance markets with knowledge about (re)insurance business.• Working knowledge of at least one vendor model (i.e. RMS, AIR).• Excellent understanding of the underlying perils science and model components.• Ideally be able to demonstrate innovative applications and solutions for risk assessment.• Interest in developing bespoke technical solutions for the region.• Excellent IT skills, ideally with computer programming skills (e.g. SQL, VBA, R).• Ability to process and understand data quickly and creatively
