EMC Test Technician - Merthyr Tydfil

Morson are recruiting on behalf of Marshall Land Systems for an EMC Test Technician to join a brand-new facility. This is an initial contract position with strong potential to become a long-term opportunity, offering a strong onsite presence and the chance to work on highly specialised engineering programmes. Candidates should be willing to travel to Cambridge occasionally until Christmas to support business and project requirements.
Responsibilities
EMC Specific
- Carry out shielding Effectiveness testing of deployable and containerised systems in accordance with approved test procedures
- Setup and operate RF test equipment, including spectrum analysers, signal generators, RF amplifiers, antennas and RF cables and measurement Software
- Record test results and compare against defined acceptance criteria
- Identify potential Shieling Effectiveness failures and assist with Investigations when required
- Inspect EMC critical parts for damage
General
- Support test planning and readiness in line with production schedules and project milestones
- Review and contribute to test plans, procedures, and work instructions
- Conduct mechanical, electrical, and integrated system testing
- Perform product inspections, fault finding, and diagnostics, ensuring clear reporting of issues
- Identify, raise, and support resolution of non-conformances (NCRs)
- Ensure all products meet defined quality gates before progression or delivery
- Maintain accurate test records and reports, certification packs, and traceability documentation
- Communicate test progress, issues, and results to key stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across test and production processes
- Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with standards and procedures
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment and instrumentation as required
- Ensure adherence to 5S and housekeeping standards within the test environment
- Support shift-based working where required (including day/night rotation)
- Promote and comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements
- Ensure compliance with all legal, statutory, and contractual obligations
Previous Experience
Essential
- Practical hands-on experience using RF, Electronic, Electrical or other technical test equipment
- Ability to follow test procedures and work instructions accurately
- Good fault finding and problem-solving skills
- Ability to accurately record measurements, observations and results
- Experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Experience with system-level testing (mechanical, electrical, or integrated systems)
- Experience working to production schedules and delivery targets
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Advantageous but Not Essential
- Previous EMC, RF or Shielding effectiveness test experience
- Experience using Spectrum analysers, RF receivers, signal generators, RF amplifiers
- Basic understanding of RF principles including frequency, power, attenuation and decibels (dB)
- Knowledge of electromagnetic shielding and Shielding Effectiveness principles
- Familiarity with IEEE 299 or similar Shielding Effectiveness test methods
- Experience within defence, aerospace or other regulated engineering environments
- Ability to perform EMC troubleshooting and mitigation
Technical Skills / Education
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
- Understanding of production testing and quality control processes
- Ability to analyse and interpret test data and results with attention to detail and understanding of the importance of consistent and repeatable testing
- Knowledge of non-conformance reporting (NCR) and root cause analysis
- Familiarity with a wide range of test equipment and instrumentation
- Good mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
- Strong knowledge of EMC standards (e.g., CISPR, IEC, MIL-STD)
- Knowledge of industry standards and quality frameworks (e.g. ISO 9001)

- Successful candidates will be required to complete a BPSS check and be eligible to hold UK Security Clearence clearance
