Job description

Location: Babraham Institute, Cambridge

Department: Epigenetics

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract

Hours: 37

Salary: Starting salary from £35,760 to £37,906 per annum (depending on experience)

We are looking for a skilled and motivated mouse embryologist to provide high-level experimental support to research projects in the Rayon Lab and across the Epigenetics Programme at the Babraham Institute. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge studies on epigenetic resilience in mammalian development and ageing.

As part of our team, you will play a key role in exploring how protein homeostasis affects the timing and function of developmental programs in embryos. This position provides the opportunity to develop cutting-edge technologies (light sheet imaging and genomics), training opportunities, and collaboration with researchers across the Epigenetics Programme and the Babraham Institute.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embryo dissection and colony management overview, including study plan design.
  • Perform experimental manipulations, including embryo transfer and single-cell dissociation.
  • Support and train postdoctoral researchers and students in embryology techniques.
  • Conduct experiments involving fluorescent imaging (experience or a strong interest is essential).
  • Apply genetic manipulation techniques in mouse embryos.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in mouse embryo transfer.
  • Experience in dissection and culture of mouse preimplantation and/or early postimplantation embryos.
  • Expertise in embryo manipulations, including zona removal, immunosurgery, and single-cell dissociation.
  • Prior experience holding a Home Office personal license and familiarity with mouse colony management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, thoroughness, and excellent organizational skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of epigenetics and developmental biology, collaborating with a dynamic team in a highly supportive research environment. If you are passionate about biological timing and developmental biology, we’d love to hear from you!

This is a fixed term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for a period of 48 months.
