Job summary

Rivan Industries in London is seeking a mid-career embedded systems engineer to own substantial subsystems, taking devices from prototype to high-volume deployment.

You will design firmware (embedded C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux), wiring harnesses, and participate in DFMA/DFT while collaborating with process, mechanical and manufacturing teams. In-person work at our Bermondsey HQ with relocation support and share options.

Qualifications

• Embedded C/C++ and RTOS experience in embedded systems.
• Experience with embedded Linux and Yocto.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508 or related.

Responsibilities

• Capture requirements, perform risk analysis and support design reviews.
• Design firmware and deploy (embedded C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux).
• Design wiring harnesses for signal and power distribution.
• Contribute to DfMA and DfT activities.
• Support integration of end-products with production tools and supply chain.
• Perform hardware and software testing and deployment (factory rigs, fleet integrations).
• Collaborate with process, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust systems on time.

Job description

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on Earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

To make the cheapest synthetic fuels on Earth, we need to have our electrical systems efficient, cheap, and scalable. That means having end-to-end ownership of hardware and software, both in our deployed machines and in our factory, and everything in between. We want to bring everything in-house. To do that, we need excellent software and hardware to design/test/deploy thousands of machines as soon as possible. We are looking for a mid-career engineer who can take ownership of substantial subsystems and help scale embedded systems from prototype to high-volume industrial deployment.

The role:

• Support requirements capture, risk analysis, and design reviews
• Firmware design/test/deploy (embedded C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux)
• Design wiring harnesses for signal and power distribution
• DfMA, DfT
• Support integration of end-products with production tools, supply chain, and procurement systems
• Hardware and software test and deployment (factory acceptance rigs, fleet management integrations)
• Work closely with process, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust systems on time

Core skills:

• Embedded-C/C++, RTOS
• Embedded Linux, Yocto project
• CI/CD, Git, automated testing
• Industrial communications standards: Modbus (RTU/TCP), CAN bus, OPC UA, TCP/IP, RS-485
• Hands-on building experience, fault-finding and repair
• Exposure to functional safety standards (IEC 61508 or related standards)

Preferred skills:

• Regulatory compliance (LVD, Machinery Directive, CE/UKCA)
• IEC 61131-3 (ST/LD/FBD)
• Python 3
• Fleet management
• Solidworks Electrical / ECAD

Specifics:

• £50-60k Salary depending on experience
• Significant share options as part of the early team
