Job summary

Avanti Recruitment is seeking an experienced Embedded Software or Controls Engineer for a challenging role in Manchester. You will work across embedded software, PLC control systems and industrial automation, designing, developing and integrating embedded and control systems with other engineering teams.

Responsibilities include PLC programming, Ladder Logic, embedded C/C++, hardware/software debugging and system validation, with exposure to sensors, actuators and industrial networks.

Qualifications

• PLC programming experience with practical debugging of PLC-controlled equipment.
• Hands-on embedded software and hardware knowledge across PLC and embedded systems.
• Experience with real-time embedded software, microcontrollers and industrial protocols.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC control software and Ladder Logic.
• Embed software development in C/C++ for control systems.
• Integrate sensors, motors, actuators and hardware with PLCs.
• Troubleshoot, debug and validate software and control issues.
• Support testing, commissioning and system documentation.

Are you an experienced Embedded Software or Controls Engineer with strong hands‑on PLC programming experience?

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to join a technically challenging engineering environment, working across embedded software, PLC control systems and industrial automation.

This position would suit someone who is comfortable working at both embedded and controls level and has previous experience developing, integrating and debugging PLC-based systems.

The Role

You’ll be involved in the design, development and integration of embedded and control systems, working closely with other software, electronics and engineering teams.

Responsibilities may include:

• Developing and maintaining PLC control software
• Programming and debugging Ladder Logic
• Embedded software development using C / C++
• Developing and integrating control systems
• Working with microcontrollers and real-time embedded systems
• Integration of sensors, motors, actuators and other hardware
• Troubleshooting and debugging software and control issues
• Supporting system testing, commissioning and validation
• Working with industrial communication protocols
• Producing technical documentation

What We’re Looking For

PLC experience is essential for this position. We’re particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate practical experience programming and debugging PLC-controlled equipment rather than purely theoretical knowledge.

Ideally, you’ll have experience with:

• PLC programming – essential

• Motion control, robotics or industrial automation
