Job summary

SSTL is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, analyse and develop software for satellite systems. The role covers the complete lifecycle from concept to launch and operations, with exposure to real-time embedded C on space hardware.

You will work on demanding projects in a hybrid environment based at our Guildford Head Office, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams and adopting agile processes. This is a pivotal opportunity for engineers wanting impact in space missions.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computing or similar subject.
• Python and embedded C Programming Language.
• Appreciation of digital electronics.
• SPARC, ARM, RISC-V architectures preferable.
• Knowledge of CAN, Serial, and IP communication protocols.
• BitBucket/GIT version control.
• Agile/JIRA development approach.

Responsibilities

• Development of complex real-time applications to meet customer requirements and interfaces.

An exciting opportunity to make a difference and deliver highly innovative software solutions for spacecraft missions. This role has responsibility for undertaking the design, analysis, and development of Embedded Software for Satellite Systems.

Engineers at SSTL are involved on a mission right from concept through to launch, commissioning, and operational life; a true cradle to grave experience and will give you the chance to see your work in Space in a rapid timescale!

Key Tasks

• Development of complex real-time applications to meet customer requirements and interfaces
• Ability to capture requirements and deliver software within tight timeframes
• Ensure effective plans are in place to deliver software in accordance with the schedule and PA/QA requirements of the project

Previous Experience

• Several years embedded C software development of real time systems using VxWorks, RT Linux, FreeRTOS, or Bare-Metal
• Exposure to recognised industry standard software development processes
