Job summary

Hydrogen Group is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer for a 3-month contract with a strong extension option, based in Motherwell/Glasgow, Scotland. You will develop embedded C software for a benchtop medical device under a regulated development process.

The role targets FDA 510(k) readiness and uses Jira, Jama, Confluence and Git. Hybrid working applies: 2 days per week in the office near Motherwell; 2–3 days per month in the office elsewhere if suitable.

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

My client has an immediate requirement for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join their team on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extending for a further 9–12 months.

Key details

• Role: Senior Software Developer / Embedded Software Engineer
• IR35: Inside IR35
• Start: Ideally 1 October, but ASAP for the right person
• Initial duration: 3 months, with a strong possibility of extension
• Location: Motherwell / Glasgow, Scotland
• Working pattern: Hybrid
  • Within 1 hour of Motherwell: 2 days per week in the office
  • Further afield: 2–3 days per month in the office may be considered for the right candidate
  • Candidates based close to Motherwell are preferred

The role

You’ll be working on embedded C software development for a benchtop medical device used in the diagnosis and management of medical conditions.

The team is working towards 510(k) FDA approval, followed by the commercial release of the software and bootloader. You’ll work within a regulated development environment alongside a wider engineering team, using tools including Jira, Jama, Confluence and Git.

Must-have experience

• Strong Embedded C development experience
• Experience developing software within a QMS/regulatory environment
• Experience with IEC 62304 or other relevant medical device software standards
• Experience creating software requirements
• Experience with tools such as Jira and Git

Nice to have

• Experience creating and maintaining software systems
• Embedded GUI development and GUI frameworks
• Experience with Python, R or other high-level languages for data processing

Sector experience

The key requirement is someone who is genuinely strong in Embedded C, has worked in a regulated software environment, and can get up to speed quickly on a medical device development programme.
