Job summary

Platform Recruitment in Cambridge is seeking an Embedded Linux software contractor to join a dedicated device drivers team. You will work on embedded Linux firmware for target hardware (OMAP and iMX6), handling kernel configuration, BSP updates, and driver enablement, on a hybrid on-site basis.

The role involves bringing up platforms, integrating peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe), investigating issues, and producing design docs, test specs, and release notes for long-term projects.

Qualifications

• Experience developing embedded Linux firmware for target hardware.
• Proven ability to implement device drivers and kernel configuration.
• Familiar with BSP updates and platform bring-up.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C and PCIe interfaces.
• Ability to produce design docs, test specs and release notes.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded Linux firmware for target hardware platforms (OMAP & iMX6).

Embedded Linux Device Drivers Contractor | Outside IR35 | Cambridge | Hybrid

My client has had a large project approved, and the deadline is July ’27. They are looking to build up a team of embedded software contractors to form a device drivers development team.

The company has a fantastic culture, a very well kitted out site, and exciting R&D work over a long term contract. They regularly hire contractors, and can offer a temp to perm arrangement if you fancy sticking around!

Scope of Services

• Development of embedded Linux firmware for target hardware platforms (OMAP & iMX6), including kernel configuration, BSP updates, and device driver enablement


• Implementation of software required to support platform bring-up and peripheral integration (e.g. UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe)


• Integration of firmware into the wider system, ensuring compatibility with existing software components


• Investigation and resolution of technical issues relating to firmware, including hardware/software interaction faults


• Production of supporting artefacts (design documentation, test specifications, and release notes


• Embedded Linux firmware components (kernel, BSP, drivers)


• Updated or new software modules integrated into the platform


• Supporting design and test documentation


• Evidence of testing and validation (unit, integration, system level as appropriate)


• Issue investigation reports and resolution outcomes
