Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced C/C++ software engineer for Front Office devices and embedded platforms in the United Kingdom. You will develop, troubleshoot and maintain software across embedded and Windows/Linux environments, interfacing with hardware like POS terminals and NFC/readers.

You will design REST APIs, MQTT and WebSocket interfaces and collaborate with hardware teams to ensure robust device integration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in software development using C/C++.
• Experience with hardware-connected applications and embedded software.
• Strong knowledge of modern C++ (C++11/14).
• Experience integrating/supporting hardware devices (POS terminals, NFC readers, printers, Bluetooth).
• Knowledge of REST APIs, MQTT and WebSocket communications.
• Experience using Git or similar version control systems.
• Experience with Embedded Linux and/or Windows-based systems.
• Familiarity with CMake and modern build processes.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and troubleshoot C/C++ applications for Front Office devices and embedded platforms.
• Analyse software behaviour and investigate issues affecting device performance and service availability.
• Support integration of hardware devices and peripherals (POS terminals, NFC devices, printers, Bluetooth, etc).
• Design, implement and maintain software interfaces using REST APIs, MQTT and WebSockets.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems engineering teams to validate hardware-software interactions.
• Participate in software testing activities (unit/integration) and defect resolution.
• Contribute to software version control, build management and deployment processes using modern practices.
• Support production environments by investigating incidents and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
