Job description

Email Marketing all-rounder for a friendly VC-backed, profitable and growing startup.

Koru Kids is building the world’s best childcare service. We’re making it easier and more affordable for families to access high quality childcare. We’re growing, are backed by fantastic investors, including top venture capitalists and business angels, and have won a bunch of awards. You can find out a lot more about Koru Kids and our culture on our main careers page.

At Koru Kids we have a triple mission: to support working parents during the hardest years of their life, to give children the best possible childhood to allow them to flourish as adults, and to create really great jobs for childcarers. We’re a marketplace, which means we have two customers: people who look after children and families. The challenge is massive, but our team is really good.

Our business is growing fast year-on-year and we’ve delivered over 4M hours of childcare. We’re backed by strong investors and top-class VC’s. Our culture is informal, hard-working and kind. The team is an A+ when it comes to talent and our “no dickheads” rule means we’re also a humble and supportive bunch. We’re also really committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we are truly proud of.

What is Email Marketing at Koru Kids?

Email is a key channel for how we talk to our families and nannies. We use it to help our users navigate their childcare journey, from signing up to finding the perfect match and beyond. Our emails need to be warm, clear and helpful – just like a trusted friend giving advice.

We’re focused on using data to send the right message to the right person at just the right time. This means building smart segments, creating personalised content, and always measuring what works.

Who you are
  • You’re analytical and can interpret data to spot opportunities and measure success
  • You create logical segments based on real customer insights and needs
  • You know what makes a great email sing – from design to subject lines and copy
  • You work well at pace and can solve problems quickly when they arise
  • You have a sharp eye for detail and catch mistakes before they happen
  • You’ll thrive in our low-ego, kind culture where learning comes first
  • You’re a clear communicator who can explain complex ideas simply
Below is a recording of Rachel (CEO) and Rebecca (CMO) talking about the role. In this recording you’ll hear: what the role involves, what the team’s like, what your career development would be like in this role, some details about part time working, and the kind of person who might succeed in the role (and what it would take).

What the job involves

Reporting to our Head of CRM Manager, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Writing email content that connects with families and nannies
  • Planning campaigns including designing segmentation, personalisation and content
  • Building and executing campaigns in customer.io our email platform
  • Identifying opportunities to retain and engage more users via email
  • Designing mobile-friendly emails that follow best practices
  • Working with the marketing team to gather content, feedback, and approvals
  • Monitoring campaign performance and analyzing key metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversions)
A typical day:

9am – You grab a cup of tea and join the company-wide (video) stand-up to hear what’s been going on across the business. It’s great to understand how your work fits into the bigger picture.

9.30am – You check in on yesterday’s campaign launch. The open rates are looking good, but the click-through rate is below target. You make a note to test a different call-to-action in the next send.

10am – You join a meeting with the product team who share insights about new users who aren’t completing their profiles. Together, you sketch out an email nurture sequence to help guide them through the process.

11am – You spend time writing copy for next week’s newsletter, making sure the tone is warm and helpful, not corporate. You keep the Koru Kids voice guidelines close by for reference.

1pm – A welcome break after a productive morning! You grab some food and head outside to make the most of the good weather.

2pm – Time to build out the segments for a new campaign targeting families who’ve signed up but haven’t matched with a nanny yet. You carefully define the criteria and test the audience size to make sure it reaches the right people.

3:30pm – You catch up with your manager to review templates for an upcoming campaign. You find a few tweaks to make the emails more mobile-friendly and highlight the key messages.

4:30pm – You spend the rest of the day analysing last month’s email performance. You spot that emails sent on Tuesday mornings have higher engagement, and make a note to adjust the sending schedule.

We offer
  • A competitive salary based on experience
  • 50% off Koru Kids childcare, up to a value of £7,000 per year as a taxable benefit
  • Work from home opportunities. We’re a remote-first company and welcome applications from anywhere in the UK
  • Potential for share option equity
  • MacBook and home office allowance
  • Video therapy sessions through Spill, to support positive mental health
  • A 20 minute phone call with our Marketing Manager
  • A practical task where you’ll create a simple email campaign
  • An assessment where you’ll meet the marketing team and discuss your approach to email marketing
