Purpose of Position: This role will provide electronic engineering support to the Underwater Systems engineering team in the maintenance and development of diving and life support systems, under the guidance of the Senior Electronics Engineer. The Electronics/Senior Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the detailed design, testing, schematic entry, PCB design, and associated documentation needed to support the continued maintenance and development of printed circuit boards and the selection and sourcing of electronic components. They will work within our multidisciplinary design team, liaising with software/management teams for system requirements, and mechanical teams for physical constraints. They will also assist with production support, fault finding, and working with subcontractors sourcing electronic components and managing obsolescence.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Design and deliver new products on-time, to cost and to specification.
2. Generate innovative design concepts for review and evaluation.
3. Produce PCB designs and layouts, drawings, and other associated documentation.
4. Lead the timely development of selected concepts from prototype to final production.
5. Work in accordance with Avon design procedures.
6. Manage the supply of electronic components with key suppliers, including finding alternatives for hard-to-source or obsolete components.
7. Analyze and test components to demonstrate fitness for purpose and produce test reports.
8. Assist with project plans and relevant costings.
9. Assist with risk and failure mode analysis and configuration control.
10. Assist in developing new business opportunities.
11. Represent the company professionally both internally and externally.
12. Conduct research and development of new products and techniques.
13. Liaise with other engineering disciplines and internal customers to establish product specifications.
14. Engage with external customers and suppliers and represent the company at meetings.
15. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electronic engineering processes.

Education/Experience/Skills

Essential:

• Good degree in Electronics Engineering, relevant engineering subject, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to deliver innovative product designs on time.
• Experience with new product innovation (NPI) and design for manufacture (DFM).
• PCB design and layout (analog and digital).
• PCB procurement and component sourcing.
• PCB population.
• PCB version and configuration control.
• PCB validation and verification.
• Ability to travel locally to support UK engineering teams as required.
• Capable of working in a small team and managing multiple projects.
• Self-managed and capable of delivering own work.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Fully computer literate.
• Eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of respiratory or life support systems.
• Knowledge of marine or underwater systems.
• Practical engineering skills.
• Ability to generate project plans and costings.
• Proficiency with Altium Designer.
• Power-supply circuit design skills.
• Design experience for microcontrollers.
• Experience with PCB certification (e.g., EMC, Military Standard 461).
• Knowledge of life support products, safety analysis, and implementation.
• Experience in commercial and military product development from concept to production.
• Understanding of electronics and software lifecycle management processes.
