Qualifications

• Familiarity with BOMs, assembly drawings and production documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day engineering support to electronics production.
• Troubleshoot PCB, electronic and mechanical assembly issues.
• Support SMT and through-hole manufacturing processes.
• Diagnose production test failures and perform fault finding.
• Work from schematics, drawings and BOMs to support build/test.
• Maintain and improve production test jigs and fixtures.
• Improve test methods and procedures to raise quality and yield.
• Investigate component, process and yield issues; perform root-cause analysis.
• Support NPI transfer from R&D into production; feedback manufacturability concerns.
• Create and maintain work instructions and production/test documentation.
• Support quality, safety and EMC/compliance requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement across production.

Electronics Production Engineer

Location: Gloucestershire Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 DOE Permanent | Monday-Friday | Days

BMR Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Electronics Production Engineer to join an established specialist manufacturer of high-quality electronic products.

This is a hands‑on engineering position sitting between electronics production and R&D, providing day‑to‑day technical support to manufacturing while helping introduce new products and processes into production.

The role would particularly suit an engineer who enjoys being close to the product and the manufacturing process - investigating failures, fault finding at PCB and component level, solving build and test problems and working directly with production teams to improve quality, reliability and manufacturing efficiency.

This is not a predominantly design‑based position. The emphasis is on practical production engineering, troubleshooting, test and continuous improvement within an electronics manufacturing environment.

The Role

Working closely with Production, R&D, Quality and Purchasing, you will provide engineering support throughout the electronics manufacturing process.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing day‑to‑day engineering support to electronics production
• Troubleshooting PCB, electronic and mechanical assembly issues
• Supporting both through‑hole and SMT manufacturing processes
• Diagnosing production test failures
• Fault finding down to component level
• Working from electronic schematics, assembly drawings and BOMs
• Supporting PCB, sub‑assembly and finished product build and test
• Maintaining and improving production test jigs and fixtures
• Improving production test methods and procedures
• Investigating component, process and manufacturing yield issues
• Root‑cause analysis of production defects and returned products
• Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) from R&D into manufacture
• Identifying manufacturability issues and feeding these back to design engineers
• Producing and maintaining work instructions and production/test documentation
• Supporting quality, safety and EMC/compliance requirements
• Driving practical continuous improvement across production

You will act as an important technical link between the engineers developing products and the teams responsible for building and testing them.

About You

We are looking for somebody with proven experience within an electronics production or manufacturing environment who is comfortable getting directly involved with problems on the production floor.

You should have practical knowledge of:

• Electronics manufacturing and assembly
• SMT and through‑hole processes
• PCB build and test
• Electronic fault finding and diagnostics
• Oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators and associated test equipment
• Production test methods
• Electronic schematics
• BOMs and assembly drawings
• Mechanical assembly associated with electronic products

Strong component‑level diagnostic skills would be particularly valuable.

You do not need to be an electronics design specialist, but you should understand electronic circuits sufficiently well to investigate failures methodically, identify root causes and communicate effectively with R&D/design engineers.

• Production test software or data logging
• IPC or similar electronics workmanship standards
• EMC and product safety requirements

• DFM / Design for Manufacture

• Working with low‑volume, high‑quality or technically complex electronic products

A degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential where candidates can demonstrate strong relevant electronics manufacturing experience.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who prefers being hands‑on and close to manufacturing rather than spending the majority of their time in a purely design‑focused position.

You will have significant involvement in resolving real production issues, improving manufacturing and test processes and helping successfully transfer new electronic products from development into production.

The position offers variety across electronics, test, manufacturing, NPI and continuous improvement and would suit somebody who enjoys taking ownership of technical problems and seeing their solutions implemented on the production floor.

Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.
