Job summary

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team in Brackley is offering a structured year-in-industry placement in our Electronics Department. You will gain hands-on experience in analogue and digital circuit design, PCB layout and system testing, while working alongside our engineers on projects that support our F1 programme.

The placement runs from late June 2027 to late July 2028 and involves a mix of design, testing and wiring harness development.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an electronics-related degree with at least one year remaining.
• Interest in analog, digital, RF or power electronics design.
• Willingness to learn and work independently in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Assist analogue and digital circuit design and PCB layout.
• Support system testing, verification and fault finding.
• Contribute to electro-mechanical design and wiring harness work.

By spending your year in industry with us, you will:

• Apply your learning in one of the most technically demanding global sports.
• Take on responsibility as you are supported and trained throughout your year.
• Join us for a year-long placement from the end of June 2027 to the end of July 2028.
• Work in a fast-paced environment at our state-of-the‑art factory in Brackley.
• Be an integral part of a cohort of students working across all functions of our team.

Key Responsibilities

The Electronics Department at Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team covers a wide range of activities: from analogue and digital circuit design and PCB layout, to system testing verification and electronic fault finding, as well as electro‑mechanical design and wiring harness design.

Industrial Placements in Electronics are flexible to suit your skills and interests. We have no fixed Industrial Placement programme: given the wide range of activities undertaken by the department, we will ensure that you spend your time working alongside staff who you are able to learn from, working in areas that inspire and motivate you. Our Industrial Placements work on projects that make a direct impact on our F1 programme, and your contribution will be critical to the ongoing success of these projects.

About You

Essential:

• Have an interest in at least one of these areas; analogue, digital, RF or power electronics design, software and embedded systems, PCB design and layout, circuit testing or electronics fault finding, mechanical or electro‑mechanical design, wiring harness design.
• Have at least one year remaining on your current course or be enrolled on your next course* from the point at which you start your placement with us (*please note that if you will be enrolled on a Masters or PhD course you will need to be able to evidence enrolment to confirm eligibility).
• Take full ownership of their work, driving projects forward with initiative and independence.
• Be adaptable, have a proactive mindset, a collaborative approach and thrive in a team environment.
• Show determination and resilience when facing challenges.
• Have keen attention to detail.
• Possess an analytical and inquisitive approach.
• Relish challenges and enjoy pushing for continuous improvement.

Desirable:

• Completing a degree in an electronics related subject.
• Strong interpersonal skills and team working ability.

Key Skills You Could Gain From Your Placement

• Designing complete electronic assemblies using CAD/PCB Layout tools.
• Understanding of what it takes to create high reliability electronics in harsh environments.
• Designing machined and composite enclosures.
