Job summary

Planet Pharma is seeking an Electronics Hardware Engineer in the Cambridgeshire area to join a fast-paced project team, driving design, development and testing of cutting-edge electrical equipment. The role requires a BSc in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 6–8 years of hands-on board-level hardware experience, with expertise in schematic design, PCB layout and firmware integration.

You will contribute to production releases, document thoroughly and collaborate across systems

Qualifications

• BSc or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
• 6–8 years hands-on board-level hardware development.
• Experience from specification to production release.
• Proficiency in schematic design, PCB layout and firmware integration.
• Strong knowledge of digital, analogue and mixed-signal electronics.
• Experience with I2C, SPI and UART interfaces.
• Ability to produce production-ready, maintainable hardware with documentation.

What You’ll Bring:

• A BSc or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline
• Six to eight years of hands‑on experience in board‑level hardware development, with a proven track record from specification to production release
• Expert knowledge in schematic design, component selection, PCB layout guidance, and firmware integration
• Strong understanding of low‑power design, digital, analogue, and mixed‑signal electronics
• Proficiency with common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART
• Experience with design verification, validation, and structured failure analysis
• Ability to produce production‑ready, maintainable hardware with thorough technical documentation
• Methodical, organized, and detail‑oriented approach to project execution

Nice to Have:

• Leadership experience or prior team lead responsibilities
• Additional certifications in hardware design or project management
• Knowledge of automation, test frameworks, or related software tools

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
• 6+ years’ experience in hardware development relevant to sophisticated electrical equipment
