Our Plymouth site is a recognised centre of excellence for navigation and control systems, developing world-class innovations such as MEMS-based IMUs and TERPROM terrain navigation systems.

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer with a detailed knowledge of analogue and digital electronics design and failure analysis, and production operations support, ideally gained in an aerospace or defence environment. This role sits within the Silicon Sensing Systems Ltd business, a Joint Venture Business between Collins Aerospace and Sumitomo Precision Products Ltd of Japan. The role will be based in Plymouth (5 days per week on site). The role will be within a multi-functional team developing new products for the business. This role is tasked with supporting the production output, investigating and correcting any faults affecting delivered product, and providing specialist engineering support to production operations. This includes undertaking detailed investigations on production failures and customer returns and working with product design teams to ensure lessons learnt are reflected in the product design process.

What You Will Do:
  • You will conduct root cause investigations into production issues and customer returns, identify and implement corrective actions, and work closely with design teams to ensure lessons learned are built into future generations of our products.
  • You’ll contribute to change control and technical reviews, providing trusted technical input on product design, performance, and test system integration.
  • You will play a key role in maintaining product quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across our production lines.
  • You’ll provide specialist engineering expertise, drive failure and root cause analysis, and ensure lessons learned are embedded into future designs.
  • This role combines hands on technical problem solving with cross functional collaboration, supporting production, design, and supply chain teams to deliver world-class inertial and navigation systems.
  • Day to day technical/production support to investigate and resolve product failures at all stages of assembly and test (real time problem solving).
  • Production support fault finding and undertaking failure investigations and recommend corrective actions (including red team support).
  • Test and investigate customer returns, write summary reports (logbooks), converse with other team members and attend customer meetings when required.
  • Supporting Technology Manager, organising and (potentially carrying out) modification, prototyping, evaluation of DMU and Inertial sensors.
  • Investigations of technical issues and data analysis (e.g using Matlab or similar tools) Working to DO160G work for DMU development.
  • Supporting qualification testing.
  • Provide technical support to Supplier Quality Development Team to assess non-compliant or alternative products from supply chain.
  • Supporting / shadowing Senior Electronics Engineer.
  • Supporting Qualification & Test lead.
What You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or a related technical discipline with relevant professional experience; or HNC/HND (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, together with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in low-level analogue and digital electronic design, ideally within the aerospace, defence, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience of product assembly methods and product test processes.
  • Knowledge of structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
Skills & Experience We Value:
  • Knowledge of principles of design, operation, production and test of inertial measurement systems.
  • Good knowledge of a wide range of products including, design, assembly, test, performance, etc.
  • Experience of motion simulator test systems, test results analysis and interpretation of test data.
