Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an Electronics Engineer for a defence sector role based in Harlow. You'll contribute to Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems within an APNT engineering team supporting military markets.

Responsibilities include designing digital hardware, FPGA development using VHDL, embedded C firmware, testing, and creating design documents. You will collaborate with embedded software and electronics teams to ensure compliant, robust electronics solutions.

  • Design digital hardware with DSP, microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory, ADCs/DACs and power supplies.
  • Create and manage FPGA-based firmware architectures.
  • Decompose, verify and validate design requirements across development activities.
  • Develop FPGA designs using VHDL and embedded C.
  • Define and perform unit- and subsystem-level testing for embedded firmware.
  • Produce design and test documentation, simulations, timing and power analyses.
  • Collaborate with embedded systems, software and electronics engineers, supporting reviews and releases.

Job description

Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is seeking an Electronics Engineer role to be based in Harlow. The position will support the development of Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems within an Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) engineering team serving the military market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop electronics and digital hardware requirements to ensure compliance with relevant defence and engineering standards
  • Design digital hardware incorporating DSP, microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory, ADCs, DACs and power supplies
  • Create and manage digital electronics and firmware architectures, predominantly involving FPGA technology
  • Decompose, verify and validate design requirements across product development activities
  • Develop FPGA designs using VHDL and embedded C
  • Define and perform unit-level and subsystem-level testing for embedded firmware
  • Produce hardware and firmware design documentation, test documents, simulation reports, timing analyses and power analysis reports
  • Collaborate with embedded systems, software and electronics design engineers, while conducting technical reviews and supporting document release
Job Requirements:
  • Significant experience in electronics design, digital hardware development and top-level design architecture
  • Experience testing and verifying engineering requirements
  • Practical knowledge of DSP, microcontrollers, memory devices, ADCs, DACs and power supplies
  • Experience working with FPGAs and System-on-Chip technologies, with the ability to understand VHDL code
  • Understanding of embedded firmware development, embedded C and embedded system architectures
  • Experience using Vivado and Vitis design tools, or equivalent, and familiarity with the Xilinx chip family would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of systems engineering approaches across the design and development lifecycle, with experience of MATLAB/Simulink or Model-Based Systems Engineering tools desirable
  • Eligibility for, or possession of, current SC security clearance, together with the ability to analyse technical data and communicate information clearly

This is acontract opportunity suited to an adaptable Electronics Engineer who can work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic defence engineering environment. Knowledge of defence engineering or airborne standards and experience delivering embedded firmware as part of a product would be beneficial
