Job summary

CMR Surgical Ltd. is seeking an electronics engineer to contribute to the Versius platform. You will work on highly integrated PCBs, from schematic to board bring‑up, and collaborate across disciplines to optimise designs for manufacturability.

The role offers hybrid working with three days in the office and exposure to ISO 13485 and 60601 standards in a fast‑paced medical device environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with ISO 13485 and 60601 is advantageous.
• Experience with design for manufacturability and cross‑discipline teamwork.

• Contributing to electronics designs on projects and other tasks within System Development.
• Designing highly integrated PCBs with power, digital and analogue electronics from schematic through bring‑up.
• Writing technical documents, memos and test specifications for medical device design and risk management.

About the Role

Contributing to electronics designs on projects and other tasks within System Development.

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week being based in the office.

Responsibilities

• Working within an experienced electronics team to deliver innovative new electronics designs and update existing designs within the Versius robotic platform.
• Designing highly integrated PCBs which have a mixture of power, digital and analogue electronics. Taking these from schematic through board bring up and transfer to manufacturing.
• Writing technical documents including detailed design specifications, technical memos and test specifications, with an opportunity to develop skills in medical device design and risk management.
• Working within multidisciplinary mechanical, software, systems and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimised for integration with other system components and the manufacturing process.
• Working with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure designs can be manufactured and tested reliably and repeatedly.
• Generating, updating and reviewing drawings for cable assemblies.
• Taking design changes through the change management process and leading and participating in design reviews.
• Assisting with investigations into issues, setting up tests and documenting results
• Assisting with taking systems through verification, including EMC and 60601 compliance testing.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

Technical skills:

• Good understanding of electronics engineering fundamentals and their application to real world designs, with an ability to work from first principles on new problems.
• Analogue and digital circuit design experience, including embedded microcontroller systems. Experience of motor control, power electronics and / or FPGA design would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of circuit design processes and tools used for schematic capture (ideally Altium Designer) and simulation.
• A solid understanding of good electronics design and documentation processes, with a proven track record of design and delivery of sustainable electronics solutions.
• Experience of design for manufacture and transfer into a volume manufacturing process is desirable.

Communication and collaboration skills:

• Track record of collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team and mentoring more junior team members.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Clear and proactive communication across teams, functions and with external suppliers.
• Exposure to safety critical or regulated product development.
• Signal integrity and design for EMC.
• Medical product design using ISO 13485 risk management and 60601 safety standards.
• Transfer to manufacture and test of complex products or systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Degree or equivalent, or comparable experience in Electronics Engineering.
