Job Description

Play a vital role in delivering advanced underwater defence electronics at ALTEN UK. You’ll be involved in designing, developing, and fault diagnosing mission-critical hardware for secure maritime systems. As an Electronics Design Engineer, you will work hands-on with PCB schematics and collaborate across engineering disciplines to support high-reliability projects. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and effectiveness of cutting-edge defence solutions.

Key Details:
  • Location: On-site in Templecombe (Hybrid – 3+ days per week)
  • Security Clearance: Must be SC Clearable (5 years UK residency minimum)
  • Experience Level: 5+ years in Electronics Hardware Design
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electronic hardware, including PCB schematic capture and layout
  • Perform detailed fault analysis and troubleshooting on complex circuits
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and design reviews
  • Collaborate with firmware, systems, and mechanical teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Participate in safety and quality assurance processes relevant to defence standards
  • Support system integration, testing, and validation in lab and operational environments
Required Skills:
  • Strong experience in Electronics Hardware Design for safety-critical systems
  • Proficient with schematic capture and PCB tools (Altium, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics)
  • Expertise in fault finding and analysis of analogue/digital electronics
  • Knowledge of EMC, signal integrity, and power supply design principles
  • Familiarity with defence or aerospace quality and safety standards
Required Experience & Education:
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant electronics hardware design experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline
  • OR relevant technical military background (e.g., Royal Navy, REME, RAF)
  • Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (5 years UK residency minimum)
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience working within regulated or safety-critical environments
  • Familiarity with PCB design verification and fault diagnostic tools
