Job description

Electronics Design Engineer required for a manufacturer of life-saving electronic solutions products. The Electronics Design Engineer will work as part of the R&D engineering team to design, develop, and sustain electronic hardware products.

You will be able to create great products that you can take pride in knowing have a positive impact in the real world.

The role involves working on development cycles for existing products (sustaining engineering) and/or new product development (NPD). For NPD, you will be responsible for the product throughout its development lifecycle, requiring good architecture planning, design skills, keen product cost awareness, and thorough documentation to ensure efficient manufacturing.

The successful candidate will work alongside the existing multidisciplinary R&D team but should also be comfortable working independently.

Electronics Design Engineer - The Role
  1. Product architecture design, cost generation, and complete electronics design.
  2. Analog and digital design at system, product, and circuit level.
  3. Hardware qualification testing, including Electro-Magnetic Compatibility and Environmental testing.
  4. Collaborate closely with other engineers, production, and production engineering as necessary.
  5. Produce prototypes of designs where appropriate.
  6. Maintain and update existing product designs and documentation.
  7. Sustaining engineering: deciding when samples are needed for testing versus parameter comparison on datasheets, and when PCB changes are necessary.
  8. Component-level troubleshooting, problem solving, and root cause analysis.
  9. Act as an intermediary between R&D and Production to resolve issues related to components, supplier changes, and new product introductions.
Electronics Design Engineer - Requirements
  1. Degree/HND in a related discipline or equivalent training/qualifications.
  2. Proven end-to-end experience of the NPD cycle.
  3. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to review and write detailed product design documents.
  5. Experience designing products for CE and global certification (EN61000, EN54, EN12094, UL, FM, NFPA).
  6. Expertise in electronic hardware architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout (high-speed, EMC, and Signal Integrity best practices), BOM preparation, EMC compliance.
  7. Experience with microcontrollers/embedded systems: Microchip, STM32, 8/16/32 bit, ARM Core.
  8. Familiarity with technologies such as SPI, I2C, Ethernet, I2S, USB, UART.
  9. Design of mixed-signal, low-power, low-voltage, low-noise circuitry.
  10. Design of embedded digital control circuitry and real-time microcontroller solutions.
  11. Enthusiasm for continuous learning.
  12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
