Job summary:
To support R&D Engineering in developing best in class, complex, high-speed analogue and digital PCB assemblies for high reliability applications. You will work with the multi-disciplinary team throughout the full engineering lifecycle assisting with requirements, architecture definition, design of new PCB level electronic and support integration and qualification of the product.
Main responsibilities:
- Designing opto-electronic analogue circuits that meet the required performance.
- Designing high speed digital circuits that utilise the latest FPGA, Microprocessor and high-speed interconnect technologies.
- Schematic Capture using Altium.
- Integrating in-house designs with COTS modules (power supplies, single board computers, RF interfaces).
- Design digital state machine architectures and logic circuits.
- Performing design analysis, i.e. parts stress and de-rating.
- Work in a multi-functional department supporting RF, Mechanical and Production Engineers.
- Supervise and guide technicians engaged in evaluation of hardware and subsystems, as well as direct involvement with test and development activities through hands-on skills.
- Assist manufacturing to resolve technical problems as required.
- Fully document and record your work products, keeping them under configuration management, and providing plans and progress reports.
Qualifications:
- BEng or BSc in Electronic Engineering or similar, or related skills and experience
Knowledge and skills:
- 5+ years practical design experience, ideally in aerospace or defence company.
- Familiarity with schematic and layout packages (Altium).
- Working knowledge of serial interfaces i.e. RS485, RS422, MLVDS.
- Mixed signal knowledge using ADC/DAC, FPGA, SoC based design for high performance signal processing, communications and control.
- Debugging, testing and verification of new designs and supporting their commissioning and integration into the target system.
- Experience of the complete hardware design cycle, from requirements capture, through schematic design and constraints capture.
- Knowledge of RTL in VHDL using Altera or Xilinx IDE environments.
- Experienced in bring-up and debug of high-density digital hardware including BGA and multilayer PCB.
- Experience in STANAG 3910 and MIL-STD-1553 protocols is highly desirable.
Other:
- SC cleared or ability to obtain clearance.
- Able to travel to other SCL sites as required.
