Job Description:

Job Title: Electronics Engineer

Salary: Based on experience, up to 5% annual bonus, 25 days annual leave and bank holidays, Company Pension, Employee Assistance Programme, Boostworks discount platform.

Volution UK is a market leader in residential and commercial ventilation systems; our purpose is to provide healthy indoor air, sustainably. We are closely aligned with environmental, health, regulatory and consumer developments that are reshaping the world's expectation of how we live life indoors.

About the Role:

You will be designing ventilation new products and the maintenance of existing ones, as required, for brands such as Vent-Axia, National Ventilation, Manrose!

We're looking for a hands-on Electronics Engineer (Hardware Design Engineer) who’s comfortable owning a design from concept to production. You’ll be creating product design and hardware specification documents, translating them into real-world electronics through schematic capture and PCB layout. You’ll also put your creations to the test—literally—by writing and executing functional test documents to ensure everything works as it should.

A big part of the job is getting your hands dirty with prototypes and field returns, figuring out what’s gone wrong and how to fix it. You'll also be expected to follow internal processes for project and change control, so good organizational skills are a must.

We’re after someone with at least 3 years of experience (placements count!) and a degree in Electronics Engineering or similar. You should be confident with tools like Altium (or similar), and experienced with embedded designs using I2C, SPI, PWM, and UART. Strong troubleshooting skills, solid documentation habits, and the ability to clearly communicate technical ideas are essential. If you're into electronics and love solving problems, you’ll fit right in.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Write product design and hardware specification documents (to meet required standards)
  • Design and develop hardware from schematic capture to PCB layout (as per the specifications)
  • Write and follow functional test documents (to ensure produced hardware meets the design specifications)
  • Investigation of faulty hardware, such as field returns or prototypes
  • Follow internal department processes such as project and change control

Skills, Knowledge & Personal Qualities:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or related subjects
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience (including relevant education e.g. sandwich / placement year)
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design (Altium preferred but not required)
  • Experience with designs using embedded processors using I2C, SPI, PWM, UART
  • Strong written and verbal communication / use of Microsoft office tools / able to write comprehensive technical design documents
  • Writing and debugging firmware in c/c++, though the primary focus of the role is hardware.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M micros, ESP32, BLE, Ethernet, WiFi, IoT, Sub-GHz radio, AC-DC power supplies up to 40W
  • Familiarity with UKCA/CE approvals
  • Designing products to EN60335-1 (or similar)
  • Support / debug of integrated / embedded systems (c/c++)
  • Design for manufacture & knowledge of manufacturing techniques
