Electronic Technician Manager
Department: Engineering / Technical Services
Reports to: Operations Director
Location: Kingskerswell, Newton Abbot
Salary: £32,500- £40,000 Dependant on experience
Job Purpose
To lead and manage a team of electronic technicians responsible for the design, assembly, testing, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment and systems. The role ensures that all electronic technicians activities meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting the company\'s operational and strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Management
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of electronic technicians, junior and apprentice engineers.
- Allocate workloads, set performance targets, and conduct regular appraisals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Technical Oversight
- Provide advanced troubleshooting guidance on complex electronic systems.
- Oversee design, testing, calibration, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, CE, UKCA).
- Project Management
- Plan and manage electronic engineering projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality teams to meet project deadlines and specifications.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure technicians follow all health & safety procedures, including ESD (electrostatic discharge) precautions, safe handling of components and COSHH etc.
- Maintain documentation for regulatory compliance and internal audits.
- Process & Quality Improvement
- Analyse production/test data to identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
- Recommend and implement new tools, technologies, or processes to improve efficiency and quality.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, and other departments to resolve technical queries.
- Provide regular status reports to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
- HND, degree, or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience as an Electronic Technician or Engineer, with several years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong understanding of analogue and digital electronics, PCB design, and fault-finding techniques. RF experience desirable.
- Familiarity with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analysers.
- Knowledge of relevant standards (ISO 9001, RoHS, EMC compliance, etc.).
