Job Description:
Electronic Support Engineer (Marine) – Permanent – Remote
This is a technical and customer-focused role to provide Electronic Support for the Regional Office responsible for the UK, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The role will be worked remotely with extensive travel to these regions. Support covers Electronic Control Systems used on various marine propulsion systems. Responsibilities include vessel commissioning, fault finding, remote assistance, emergency support, and vessel inspections.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning and Sea Trials
- Carry out commissioning activities for Electronic Control Systems including MECS, Blue Arrow, and AVX Systems, including installation, acceptance trials, and crew training.
- Complete commissioning reports and update project logs.
- Interface with third-party equipment (engine, gearbox).
- Perform DP trials and autopilot interface as required.
Technical Support
- Provide timely and robust electronics support.
- Record and prioritize complaints and technical queries.
- Travel on short notice for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Provide technical advice on installation issues to shipyards.
- Resolve customer issues promptly and satisfactorily.
- Maintain complaints database and handle technical issues effectively.
Customer Focus
- Communicate effectively and manage difficult customers assertively.
- Meet support commitments within required timeframes.
- Provide remote support via phone and email, including emergency assistance.
- Gather customer feedback on support and training.
- Achieve successful problem resolution and positive feedback.
Product Development Support
- Contribute ideas for product improvements in reliability, safety, maintainability, and manufacturing.
- Diagnose and report faults on returned products.
- Assist in defining new product requirements.
- Document suggestions and manage returned product diagnostics.
- Develop and optimize support documentation and systems.
Training and Development
- Provide training for distributors and customers on Electronic Control Systems.
- Deliver in-house technical training for staff.
- Ensure training effectiveness through feedback surveys.
Health and Safety
- Take responsibility for personal safety.
- Understand and perform risk assessments.
- Complete risk assessments for vessel support activities.
- Report no accidents or near misses.
- Attend risk assessment training.
