Job summary

MBDA is seeking a hands-on engineer to certify missile sub-systems for production by leading mechanical, climatic and EMC qualification trials at Stevenage. The role requires translating verification plans into structured trial instructions, overseeing test execution, and delivering high-quality trial reports to support critical certification activities.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of electronic and mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of EMC and/or RF testing.
  • Experience in producing structured trial instructions and high-quality test reports.
  • Experience of testing hardware in mechanical, climatic, and EMC environments.
  • Experience of setting up test equipment and UUTs.

Job description

This is a phenomenal opportunity to play a fundamental role in certifying our missile sub-systems for production by leading their mechanical, climatic and EMC qualification trials.

Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity

This pivotal role ensures that electronic and electro-mechanical sub-systems in the development phase are rigorously tested and verified against required environmental conditions. You will be responsible for translating verification plans and requirements into structured trial instructions, overseeing test execution and delivering high-quality trial reports to support critical certification activities-all while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

As part of our Proving Engineering team, you'll work closely with sub-system and test equipment design teams as well as EMC, mechanical, and climatic testing experts. You will bring qualification campaigns from paper to reality, ensuring rigorous and reliable testing at our Stevenage and Bristol facilities.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with safety, quality, and security specialists to uphold strict compliance and industry best practices, providing essential evidence to qualify both early-stage and mature designs before production.

What we are looking for from you
  • A strong understanding of electronic and mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of EMC and/or RF testing
  • Familiarity with actuator and radio technologies
  • Experience in producing structured trial instructions and high-quality test reports
  • Ability to interpret specifications, design documents, and safety sheets
  • Proven experience of conducting field and/or lab trials
  • Experience of testing hardware in mechanical, climatic, and EMC environments
  • Experience of setting up test equipment and Units Under Test (UUTs)
  • An awareness of quality control processes
  • Handling ESD-sensitive devices
