Job summary

Oakmont Consulting is seeking an hands-on hardware design engineer to join a fast-growing IoT team. You will design embedded electronic hardware for IoT edge devices with ownership from concept through to manufacture.

The role requires 3+ years in embedded electronics, strong MCU and sensor interfacing, schematic capture, PCB layout, and low-power design. You will prototype, test, debug, and collaborate with QA and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
• 3+ years in embedded hardware or electronics design.
• Strong component selection, microcontroller and sensor interfacing experience.
• Schematic capture and PCB design/layout experience.
• Proven low-power/battery system design and optimisation.
• Experience integrating comms modules.
• In-circuit test, JTAG and hardware debugging tool experience.
• Strong hands-on prototyping and breadboarding skills.
• Good grasp of EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power integrity principles.

Responsibilities

• Design embedded electronic hardware for IoT edge systems: microcontrollers, memory, power management, sensors, comms interfaces
• Producing schematics and PCB layouts, maintaining design files and documentation
• Selecting and qualifying components against performance, reliability, availability, cost and lifecycle
• Designing and optimising low-power, battery-powered systems for long-life field deployment
• Integrating wired and wireless comms interfaces and radio modules
• Leading prototype bring-up, debugging and board-level fault finding
• Working with Hardware QA on verification, validation, environmental and compliance testing
• Supporting manufacturing and supply chain activity, including pilot builds and supplier engagement
• Contributing to DFT, DFM and DFR initiatives
• Investigating and resolving hardware issues across development, production and field deployment
