Title:
Electromechanical Engineering Apprentice

The Role

KBR are a key supplier to major Aerospace customers where compliance and accuracy of work is vital in the industry and daily operations. We now have an exciting opportunity for an Electromechanical Engineering Apprentice to join our skilled, dynamic Metrology Team, in a varied role where you can 'earn while you learn'!

You'll join our team based in an environmentally controlled calibration laboratory on an Aerospace site. One of our skilled and friendly technicians will be on hand to support you while you learn and grow.

As part of your apprenticeship, one day each week, you'll attend Yeovil College in person to learn the theory underpinning your Electromechanical role.

Your Apprenticeship

For your professional development, we will support you to achieve an Electro-mechanical Engineering Level 6 Apprenticeship, delivered by our trusted Provider, Yeovil College. You'll be able to work on your apprenticeship during working time, getting hands-on experience in your role and attending engaging sessions one day a week at a local college.

Over the course of five years, your apprenticeship programme will take you on a learning journey through electromechanical engineering; from engineering design; systems design and mechanics, to electrical and electronic engineering, digital systems and software, safety and mathematics.

To complement your new knowledge, you'll learn skills in engineering, modelling, design and assembling equipment for testing. Woven through your knowledge and skills will be practising key behaviours like communication, championing safety and quality, teamwork and growing your confidence to work independently.

This Electromechanical Engineering apprenticeship is a particularly rewarding programme, as by the time you finish you'll have achieved a Foundation Degree followed by a BEng (Hons) top-up Level 6 degree in the Mechanical Engineering pathway.

Responsibilities

You'll receive full training in how to do the key tasks in your apprentice role, including:
  1. Verification, adjustment and repair of Electrical instruments to manufacturers specifications
  2. Calibration of ATE's (Automated Test Equipment) used in the client's production environment to their acceptance procedures
  3. Creation of test procedures and schedules to performance check OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and bespoke instruments
  4. Interpreting OEM / client instrument specifications for compliance testing procedures used in production of aerospace components
  5. Understanding of other calibration disciplines: Temperature, Humidity, Pressure

Technical Skills/Knowledge

We're looking for candidates who have:
  1. Achieved a relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent
  2. Basic proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Outlook and Word
  3. Good written and oral communication skills

Desirable but not essential, training will be given:
  1. Understanding of wiring and circuit diagrams to be able to perform diagnostics at component level
  2. An interest in PC software coding (BASIC type) to create, amend and perform automated calibrations
  3. Knowledge of a broad range of communication protocols to enable connection to instrumentation
  4. Ability to logically diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
