Job summary

University of Manchester is seeking a Research Associate in Electromagnetic Non-Destructive Evaluation and Inspection to contribute to the EPSRC-funded FENDER programme. The role involves modelling sensors, developing sensor interfaces and real-time software, and supporting the transfer of technology to partners.

Essential criteria include a PhD in a STEM field or equivalent research experience, strong EM theory application, and a proven publication record with excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent industrial research experience.
  • Proven track record of applying electromagnetic theory to engineering applications.
  • Record of publications in leading journals and ability to write scientific reports.
  • Ability to present research findings at national and international meetings and conferences.
  • Excellent oral and written scientific communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Model and optimise electromagnetic sensors and coil configurations; design, prototype and validate EM sensors and arrays.
  • Develop sensor-interface electronics and multi-channel data acquisition; improve real-time hardware and firmware, and implement algorithms with the team.
  • Develop real-time acquisition, processing and control software.
  • Assist in the development of the data acquisition system for sensor arrays.
  • Support commercialisation partners in developing systems into a commercial product.
