Position

Excel is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician - Product Support who enjoys pre and after sales support of precision equipment and supplies (primarily used in material testing labs). You will work with leading organizations defining the future (i.e., NASA, Apple, SpaceX, Solvay, Blue , RTX, Collins, Hexcel, Kaman, MIT, Heico, U.S. DOE, NIAR, UDRI, J&J, Broadcom, Bettis, Coherent and many more) in exciting industries such as aerospace, medical device, defense, semiconductor, composites, automotive and more.

Location

The position is based out of our 99 Phoenix Ave., Enfield, CT headquarters, where our state-of-the art showroom and applications engineering lab facility is located.

Primary activities

  • Schedule and perform installation, training, PM, service and calibration assignments.
  • Assist Sales Engineers with product and system demonstrations and, conduct applications engineering trials.(in-person and at Excels showroom and applications engineering lab).
  • Perform quality control testing for inbound and outbound products.
  • Train customers and company representatives on the proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Support Sales Engineers with solution recommendations, cost estimates and proposals.
  • Maintain showroom, demonstration equipment and applications engineering lab.
  • Act as a technical liaison for higher level support issues.
  • Provide front line telephone and on-site system support to internal and external customers.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to qualify and integrate products and technology.
  • Work with sales engineers and customers to assist with and close sales.
  • Collaborate with upper management to evaluate and address complex challenges.

Some domestic travel is required, as well as occasional visits to customers and manufacturing partners in other territories. Position requires overnight travel for equipment installs, customer training and preventative maintenance / service. Trips range from (2) days to (5) days with a total of 15-20 trips a year (expect roughly 60-80 days a year of overnight travel). Note ~80% of trips are scheduled 2-8 weeks in advance or longer.

Typical Skillset

  • Hands-on, electro-mechanical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and service knowledge and capabilities
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations
  • Technical mindset, with ability to operate electro-mechanical equipment and use a wide variety of standard tools and diagnostic devices
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals and schematics in the execution of various start-up, run-in, troubleshooting and quality testing procedures

The Electro-Mechanical Technician is expected and encouraged to continuously improve technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and industry events, consuming industry publications (online and offline) and participating in professional societies.

This is a flexible position open to candidates with all levels of experience. Please note, all employees able to successfully demonstrate technical capability (i.e., technical aptitude, hands-on mechanical skills, proficiency with small tools etc. ) will be provided hands-on factory training and will be backed by a support team (management, back office and sales).
