Electro–Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Type: Permanent Full–time Competitive salary + excellent benefits (pension, private healthcare)

Are you an experienced Electro–Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a new challenge?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands–on engineer with expertise in mechanical and electrical design to join a dynamic team specialising in low and medium voltage switchgear. This role offers the chance to design, develop, and optimize cutting–edge electromechanical systems, supporting new product development and technical improvements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop low and medium voltage switchgear from feasibility to production.

  • Utilize 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for detailed design and assembly.

  • Conduct design for manufacture analysis, including DFMEA and functional reviews.

  • Provide technical support, including customer site visits for investigations and maintenance.

  • Assist in problem–solving and continuous improvement activities.

  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, risk management, and IEC/BS EN regulations.

Skills & Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering (HNC or equivalent).

  • 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Understanding of risk management, material properties, and structured engineering processes.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of switchgear, railway overhead line equipment, or mechanical interlock systems.

  • Experience with static/dynamic simulation tools, thermoplastic moulding, or dielectric performance.

  • Familiarity with IEC (phone number removed), BS EN (phone number removed) standards.
