Job summary

GE Vernova’s Marine Power Test Facility in Leicester is seeking an Electro-Mechanical CAD Designer to produce 2D/3D drawings for complex electro-mechanical installations. You will work with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, creating detailed electrical diagrams, cable routes and mechanical layouts for ship and submarine projects.

You will report to Systems Engineering, collaborating with a diverse team to ensure compliance with standards and regulations while supporting other engineering activities

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds, HNC/HND or Degree in CAD, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Produce 2D/3D electro-mechanical drawings and models.
  • Create and maintain electrical system diagrams and cable/piping layouts.
  • Develop detailed designs to specifications, standards and regulations.
  • Ensure drawings comply with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with Engineering teams and site personnel.
  • Survey and update existing drawings and layouts at the facility.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers, including site visits.
  • Support other engineering activities as needed.

The MPTF is the only commercial land-based facility in the world that is capable of full-scale testing of complete integrated naval power and propulsion systems from ship fit prime movers through to propulsion at up to 20MWscale.

The role of Electro-Mechanical CAD Designer at GE Power Conversion UK is an exceptional opportunity for your capabilities, enthusiasm, and experience to make a real impact at one of the leading energy technology companies working on major, global projects.

About The Role

This role is based at our Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) in Whetstone (Leicester). This state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in de-risking, present and future platforms, energy and propulsion technologies, micro grids and associated systems and solutions for both surface ships and submarines.

This is an autonomous role where you will be responsible for producing engineering designs and drawings, using AutoCAD / Autodesk Inventor computer aided design (CAD) software, to provide support for all engineering activities at the Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) on a variety of engineering projects. The areas of responsibility will cover electrical system drawings and documentation: circuit diagrams, single line diagrams, interconnection drawings, cable schedules; and also for: cable routing, piping systems, plant layout / spatial design, mechanical arrangements, and structural designs.

The duties can vary day to day and month to month, depending on the project and the status of the project, and also the facility requirements.

As part of this role, you will also have responsibility for the following activities:

  • Comply with company and regulatory health and safety requirements.
  • Create and maintain all project and site facility 2D/3D drawings for electro-mechanical installations.
  • Developing detailed designs to specifications, standards, and regulations.
  • Execute the design adhering to business standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Review engineering drawings and designs for accuracy to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
  • Providing technical support to Engineering colleagues.
  • Survey the existing building, structures, for the creation and update of drawings.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers (including site visits).
  • Assists in other areas of the business as required

Qualifications/Requirements

  • City & Guilds, HNC/HND or Degree in CAD, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced user of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, or similar packages, with a strong track record in both 2D and 3D electro-mechanical design.
  • Proven experience in producing complex electrical/mechanical drawings (cable schedules, piping, and structural layouts) within a regulated engineering environment.
  • A proactive, self-motivated professional who thrives in a diverse, collaborative facility environment.
  • The applicant must be a sole national British citizen and have a valid UK passport, and holds, or is eligible to obtain, UK security clearance to SC level.
  • Hold a valid full UK driving licence.
