Job description

Our client, a leader in the Defence and Security sector, is seeking a skilled Electro-Magnetics Engineer to join their team permanently.

Key Skills Required:
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetics and related design concerns.
Role Overview:

This role involves designing and producing electric motors and generators for the aerospace, defence, and oil and gas industries. You will collaborate with project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, aerodynamicists, and manufacturing engineers to develop cutting-edge products and provide sustaining engineering support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design electro-magnetic devices such as BLDC, Synchronous PM, and Induction motors & generators.
  • Conduct concept analysis and design trade-offs across various motor technologies.
  • Perform electro-magnetic FE analysis and magnetic circuit calculations using tools like MotorCAD and Ansys Maxwell.
  • Simulate system performance and analyze impacts on motor design and requirements.
  • Define acceptance and qualification requirements; test wound product devices.
  • Support sales visits and customer discussions.
  • Address production issues related to electro-magnetic products.
  • Produce engineering reports, specifications, compliance statements, and procedures.
  • Review engineering documents such as drawings and reports.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support the New Product Introduction process.
  • Contribute to developing procedures to maximize efficiency and meet customer needs.
  • Prepare technical proposals, costings, and documentation for business development.
  • Provide technical support to sales teams for new business acquisition.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Undertake training as identified by management.
  • Support departmental and customer needs, including ad hoc tasks and secondments.
Job Requirements:
  • Experience with 2D/3D FEA packages like MotorCAD and Ansys.
  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, specializing in e-machine design.
  • Strong simulation, analytical, and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and coding in MATLAB, Python, Octave, etc.
  • Ability to learn quickly, solve problems, and adapt to changes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with enthusiasm and team spirit.
  • Excellent communication skills.
