About the role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

We are looking for two Restoration Engineers to be part of the growing Resilience and Emergency Management Directorate. This exciting opportunity will allow the post holder to understand and assess the most significant risks to the energy system, and work with Government and industry to mitigate them.

As a Restoration Engineer, you will be providing assurance of the NESO’s Electricity System Restoration (ESR) capability and creating the strategic direction for system restoration following a partial or total shutdown. You will also liaise with industry stakeholders to develop and validate restoration strategies and plans for times of extreme system distress.

This role can be based in Wokingham, Warwick, or Glasgow, with hybrid working options. We are open to full-time, part-time, and flexible working arrangements.

About you

We’re seeking visionary minds to join us on this transformative journey. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Project management experience and stakeholder engagement skills are advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing concise technical reports for diverse audiences.
About us

At NESO, we aim to operate a zero-carbon electricity system for Great Britain by 2030, transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Join us in shaping a sustainable energy future.

In Autumn 2024, the ESO transitioned to NESO, the independent body responsible for planning and operating Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks, with complete operational independence.

As part of our team, you’ll impact almost everyone in Great Britain and help shape future energy use and consumption.

What you'll get

Salary: £45,000-£65,000 per annum, dependent on experience. Includes performance bonus, 26 days annual leave, and a contributory pension scheme with company matching up to 12%.
