Job summary

Drax Power Station near Selby is recruiting a qualified Electrician to join our established Electrical Maintenance team onsite. You will perform lighting maintenance, general electrical work and fault-finding across the site, supporting both planned and reactive activities.

The role offers a stable, long-term career within a respected engineering business, with a Monday–Friday day shift and opportunities for training and development.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Electrician with City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience in industrial/power generation environments.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience working under permit-to-work systems (2391 preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical lighting maintenance across the power station site.
  • Undertake general electrical maintenance and installation works.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and carry out repairs safely.
  • Complete testing, inspection and commissioning activities where required.
  • Install and maintain electrical containment systems (cabling, trays, ladders).
  • Interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and permit systems.
  • Maintain health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Document maintenance and site records.
  • Contribute to a quality-focused, safe, and improving team culture.

Job description

Our Engineering division delivers electrical and mechanical maintenance, installation and project works across a range of critical infrastructure and industrial environments throughout the UK. At Drax Power Station, our established onsite team supports the safe operation and maintenance of electrical assets across the site, delivering planned maintenance, installations, testing, fault-finding and improvement works that contribute to the ongoing reliability and efficiency of the facility. The recent contract extension provides a strong pipeline of work and long‑term career opportunities for the successful candidates. The Role Reporting to the Site Management team, you will play an important role in delivering electrical maintenance and installation works across the Drax Power Station site. This is a Monday to Friday position working standard day shifts of 07:00hrs to 15:30hrs, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities in a safety‑critical industrial environment.,

Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical lighting maintenance across the power station site.
  • Undertake general electrical maintenance and installation works.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and carry out repairs efficiently and safely.
  • Complete testing, inspection and commissioning activities where required.
  • Install and maintain electrical containment systems including cable tray, ladder rack and associated equipment.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with relevant regulations, procedures and permit systems.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Complete maintenance documentation and site records accurately.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture focused on quality, safety and continuous improvement.

You will be a qualified Electrician with experience working within industrial, power generation, manufacturing or heavy engineering environments.

Requirements
  • Qualified Electrician (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • ECS/JIB Card or equivalent
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong understanding of electrical installation and maintenance practices
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical schematics
  • Experience working safely under permit‑to‑work systems, City & Guilds 2391 Inspection, Testing & Commissioning qualification
  • IOSH or other Health & Safety qualifications
  • Site supervision or site management qualifications
  • Experience within power generation, industrial or heavy engineering environments
Knowledge & Experience
  • Electrical maintenance and fault‑finding experience
  • Testing and inspection of electrical installations
  • Experience of lighting maintenance and upgrades
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment
  • Strong awareness of health, safety and environmental requirementsAbility to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and problem‑solving skills

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Electrician to join our established Electrical Maintenance team based at Drax Power Station near Selby.

Following the successful renewal of our long‑term maintenance contract for several further years, and as a result of recent team changes, we are looking to recruit additional Electricians to support our dedicated full‑time onsite electrical team. This is an excellent opportunity to secure a stable, long‑term role within a highly respected engineering business, working on one of the UK‘s most significant power generation facilities.
