Job description

About the Company

Our client is a growing electrical contractor, delivering projects across the commercial, industrial and renewable energy sectors.

Over the past several years, the company has gone from strength to strength, building an impressive portfolio of projects and securing contracts with a number of well-known businesses across the UK.

With a strong pipeline of work and continued growth, they're now looking to bring experienced Commercial Electricians into their permanent team.

The business has a friendly, sociable culture, with a close-knit team who work hard, support one another and enjoy getting together outside of work.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on position working on commercial electrical installations across customer sites throughout the UK.

Projects cover a broad range of electrical infrastructure, including power and lighting installations, EV charging, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data networks and associated electrical works.

You'll be involved in installing, testing and commissioning equipment, working alongside other electricians, apprentices and other contractors to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Regular travel and working away from home are an important part of this role, with projects taking place nationwide, including frequent work in the North of England. Candidates must be comfortable with early starts, overnight stays and changing project schedules.

For somebody with the right attitude and ambition, there are excellent opportunities to develop new technical skills, gain additional qualifications and progress into positions with greater responsibility, including supervising teams and running sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical installation work across commercial and light industrial environments.
  • Install electrical power distribution systems, lighting, cabling and containment.
  • Work on projects involving EV charging infrastructure, battery storage systems and data networks.
  • Install and terminate a range of electrical cable types and sizes.
  • Undertake electrical testing, inspection, fault-finding and commissioning activities.
  • Commission equipment using laptops, smartphones and manufacturer-specific applications.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications and installation instructions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, site managers and third-party commissioning teams.
  • Provide regular progress updates to management, including photographs and site information.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, to a high standard and within project deadlines.
  • Adapt to changing site requirements and project schedules.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as experience develops, potentially including supervising other operatives and managing site activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
  • A recognised electrical installation qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent
  • ECS Gold Card
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • A solid background in commercial electrical installation work.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work away from home when required.
Preferred
  • Completion of a recognised 3-4-year electrical apprenticeship, including AM2 or equivalent practical assessment.
  • Ideally, at least two years' post-qualification experience, although candidates with different levels of experience will be considered.
  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification, or proven testing experience.
Additional Experience & Qualifications (Advantageous)
  • EV charging installation experience and/or relevant Level 3 qualification.

  • Commercial power and lighting installations.
  • Data network cabling and associated infrastructure.
  • Electrical testing, inspection and commissioning.
  • First Aid / First Responder training.

You don't need to have experience in every area. The company is particularly interested in electricians with a strong commercial background, a good work ethic and a willingness to learn new skills.

About You

Attitude and personality are just as important as technical ability.

We're looking for somebody who is:

  • Hardworking and reliable, with a strong work ethic and pride in their work.
  • A good communicator, comfortable dealing with colleagues, management, customers and other contractors.
  • Flexible and adaptable, happy to work away, start early and accommodate changes to project schedules.
  • A team player, who enjoys working with others and contributing to a positive working environment.
  • Eager to learn, with an interest in developing new skills and gaining further qualifications.
  • Practical and hands-on, comfortable with physically demanding work and working outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Ambitious, with the potential and willingness to take on greater responsibility as the business grows.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, laptops and digital applications for commissioning and reporting.
What's on Offer?
  • Competitive hourly rate with plenty of opportunities to increase earnings through overtime.
