Job description

Messenger Construction are looking for an Electrician Apprentice to join the team in Collyweston.

To undertake a structured electrical apprenticeship, combining practical, site-based experience with college training, with the aim of developing the knowledge, skills and competence required to become a qualified electrician.

Working as part a team, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience across a range of projects, working alongside and under the supervision of experienced electricians. The role will provide exposure to electrical installation, maintenance, testing and associated works, while developing a strong understanding of safe working practices, quality standards and the wider construction environment.

The apprentice will report to the Services Manager, with day-to-day guidance and supervision provided by suitably experienced members of the electrical team.

DUTIES INCLUDE
  • Assist qualified electricians with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment
  • Learn to read and understand drawings, specifications, plans and technical information relevant to electrical works
  • Develop practical skills in the installation of containment, cabling, wiring, accessories, lighting and other electrical systems appropriate to the apprentice’s level of training and competence
  • Learn the correct selection, use and care of electrical tools, equipment and materials
  • Assist with inspection, testing and fault-finding activities under appropriate supervision as knowledge and competence develops
  • Work alongside experienced electricians to gain a broad understanding of electrical installations within a construction and heritage environment
  • Attend college as appropriate to course, complete all required coursework and assessments, and actively work towards successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification
  • Participate in additional training and development opportunities provided by the Company where necessary
  • Follow instructions and work safely and responsibly in accordance with Company and site Health & Safety requirements, including the correct use of PPE
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area and take appropriate care of tools, equipment and materials
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, site teams, subcontractors, clients, design teams and other project stakeholders
  • Comply with all Company Health & Safety, HR, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Carry out other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and level of training, supporting the apprentice’s ongoing development within the Services team.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A genuine interest in developing a career as a qualified electrician
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing new practical and technical skills
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A good standard of maths and English
  • A responsible approach to Health & Safety and willingness to follow safe working practices at all times
  • Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of work undertaken
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to take responsibility for personal learning and development
  • Flexible approach to work activities, project locations and working hours
  • Comfortable working in a construction environment, including externally and at height where required and appropriately trained.
