Job description
Overview

The Company is collaborating with a main contractor that specialises in responsive repairs, planned maintenance and retrofit projects for local authorities and housing associations. With offices across the UK the company now employs over 700 skilled operatives and specialists delivering a national solution with a local focus. Since their inception 20 years ago, the company has grown rapidly, completing works on over 5,000 tenanted properties and now turnover in excess of £80 million offering comprehensive works covering full kitchen and bathroom replacements, electrical rewires, boiler changes, new heating systems, disabled adaptations, external insulated rendering, general roofing, loft insulation, and external environmental works.

The Role

The successful candidate will be a qualified Electrician responsible for the full range of installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems across a variety of projects. You\'ll be expected to deliver a high standard of workmanship, work safely and efficiently, and support the smooth delivery of refurbishment and fit out schemes.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine electrical repairs, installations, and upgrades across social housing properties.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults effectively.
  • Perform wiring and rewiring tasks as required.
  • Upgrade and replace consumer units in line with regulations.
  • Repair and maintain lighting, sockets, switches, and other electrical fixtures.
  • Undertake electrical installations in kitchens, bathrooms, and property extensions.
  • Install and maintain electrical systems including lighting, power outlets, distribution boards, heating systems, and fire alarms.
  • Respond promptly to tenant-reported issues while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Conduct Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and complete remedial works in accordance with current standards.
  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) when necessary.
  • Ensure all work complies with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and relevant legislation.
  • Complete all required certification and documentation accurately, including EICs and Minor Works Certificates.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
  • Use handheld devices to manage work orders, complete timesheets, and request materials.
  • Identify and report any safeguarding issues or housing condition concerns.
  • Prepare void properties for re-letting by ensuring full electrical compliance.
Qualifications/Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
  • City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 (Inspection and Testing) - preferred.
  • Proven experience in domestic electrical work, ideally within social or residential housing.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong understanding of current electrical safety standards and building regulations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
