Job summary

Ford & Stanley Talent Services Group Ltd is seeking an experienced Electrical Tester to join our Milton Keynes rail engineering team. You will perform electrical and functional testing on rail vehicles, diagnose faults, verify installations and support vehicle delivery programmes.

The role requires reading schematics, using test equipment and working closely with production, engineering and quality teams. A strong commitment to safety and quality is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Experience as an Electrical Tester or similar role in rail or safety-critical environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read schematics and use test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical and functional testing on rail vehicles and systems.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults using schematics and drawings.
  • Test doors, lighting, HVAC, batteries and control circuits.
  • Record results accurately and support commissioning activities.
  • Ensure work is safe and meets quality standards.

Electrical Tester (Rail Rolling Stock)

Location: Milton Keynes

Salary: £45,000 + 12.5% Shift Allowance (Mornings/Afternoons) + 33% Nights

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Tester to join a growing rail engineering team based in Milton Keynes. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled electrical professional with a strong background in fault finding, diagnostics, and static testing of complex electrical systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out electrical and functional testing on rail vehicles and associated systems to ensure vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for service. You will work closely with production, engineering, quality, and commissioning teams to diagnose faults, verify installations, and support vehicle delivery programmes.

Candidates with experience from rail, automotive, aerospace, defence, heavy vehicle, marine, bus and coach manufacturing, or other safety-critical engineering environments are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical and functional testing on rail vehicles and systems.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical faults using schematics and technical drawings.
  • Test systems including doors, lighting, HVAC, batteries, control circuits and communications.
  • Use electrical test equipment and accurately record results.
  • Support commissioning, fault investigation and vehicle acceptance activities.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and to quality standards.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience as an Electrical Tester, Test Technician, Electrical Fitter or similar.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and testing experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience using electrical test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety and quality.
Desirable
  • Rail or rolling stock testing experience.
  • Electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC, HNC/HND).
  • Experience within manufacturing, maintenance, commissioning or refurbishment.
  • Knowledge of rail standards and vehicle control systems.
