Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Electrical Test Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the consistent procurement, quality assurance, cost-effectiveness, and technical excellence of specialist materials for all projects. Reporting to the Head of Engineering and Senior Quality Manager, this position involves reviewing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and overseeing Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and inspections of equipment from an engineering perspective. The Electrical Test Engineer collaborates closely with project teams, engineering, quality, and project personnel to facilitate the seamless execution of material-related activities in adherence to approved procedures, codes, regulations, and company standards.The Electrical Test Engineer can be located anywhere in the UK with offices in Golborne, Leeds, Cannock & London.

Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we’re able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.

What you will be doing:

  • Identify and source specialist materials required for various projects, ensuring timely availability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers to meet project requirements.
  • Continuously evaluate and qualify new suppliers for specialized materials to enhance supply chain reliability.
  • Review and formalize Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) to ensure they align with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and equipment inspections, assessing compliance with engineering criteria and industry standards.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to address any non-conformities and implement corrective/preventative actions.
  • Stay informed about statutory regulations, environmental legislation, and industry best practices relevant to materials used in projects.
  • Ensure that material activities are conducted in strict compliance with these regulations and company practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to Project Management Teams, Managers, Supervisors, Foremen, and operatives regarding material-related matters.
  • Support teams in the selection of appropriate materials and processes to meet project requirements.
  • Manage and supervise material engineering activities, including material selection, testing, and specification development.
  • Ensure that materials used in projects meet the required engineering standards and performance criteria.
  • Implement effective material control processes to minimize wastage, costs, and project delays.
  • Monitor material usage and inventory levels, adjusting as needed to optimize resource utilizatio

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field; relevant certifications and advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Experience in materials management, procurement, and quality assurance within an engineering context.
  • Knowledge of materials used in specialized projects and industries.
  • Familiarity with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and environmental requirements.
  • Proficiency in using material management software and tools.
