Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking a skilled technician to carry out reactive and planned maintenance on electrical and mechanical plant and equipment across our sites. You will respond to alarms, fault-find, install new equipment, and record asset information to improve performance.

A time-served apprenticeship with electrical experience is essential, with 18th Edition preferred and on-job training provided.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems.
  • NVQ/C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition referenced; training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance on electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Respond to alarms and fault-find to identify issues and implement fixes or escalate.
  • Install new plant and equipment in line with standards and regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance and identify risks.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and coach/mentor staff including apprentices.

Job description

  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors by always displaying the correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water's Health and Safety guidelines.

  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fix these or elevate, planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.

  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.

  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.

  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

    As a successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers., You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.

  • 18th Edition preferred, but training can be given.

  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or elevate if required.

  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.

  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.

  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.

  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am -3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training. All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

  • Offering a salary up to £42,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

  • Annual Leave: 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
