Job Title: Electrical Technician
Location: Torness Power Station, Dunbar
Compensation: Up to £36,000 + £4,000 annual performance related bonus + overtime

The role

As an Electrical Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will work with highly specialised equipment in the Nuclear sector, operating in an exciting, highly-regulated and technically challenging environment.

You’ll be part of an experienced team who are responsible for supporting the Heysham, Torness and Hartlepool power stations with ongoing maintenance during shut down periods.

Typical work carried out in the department covers mechanical and PCB assembly, wiring off cable assemblies and cubicles, and test activities on a variety of electrical and electronic assemblies, including reactor in-core inspection and safety circuit equipment.

  • Day-to-day, you’ll adhere to and sign completion of written operations on production planning, within an ISO 9001 quality system, including identifying any variances and notifying supervision for approval or further action.
  • Assemble and wire small electronic modules, boxes and units and electrical / electronic control and indication panels and cubicles.
  • Assemble and test analogue of PCBs (hand soldered through-hole PCB technology).
  • Test analogue of PCBs and electrical equipment to approved test documentation including collation of test results.
  • Peer check verification of test results.

The role is on a permanent basis, contracted hours are 37 per week however will require frequent overtime (paid at 1.5x). A standard week is Monday to Thursday, 07:30-18:00 Monday to Wednesday and Thursday 07:30-15:00.

Outages are covered by shift work 06:30 – 18:30 / 18:30 – 06:30 Mon-Fri and they generally run for 12-day periods.

You will be required to travel occasionally to support other power stations during shut down periods.

Essential experience of the Electrical Technician:

  • Experience within an electrical / avionics / electronics role

Qualifications for the Electrical Technician:

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject OR substantial experience
