Job description

Electrical Project Manager Docklands | Data Centre | Permanent

If you're an Electrical Project Manager who wants to work on a serious live data centre project rather than another standard commercial M&E job, this is a strong opportunity.

You’ll be working on a major Docklands data centre campus, supporting electrical upgrade and expansion works across an existing mission‑critical environment.

The site sits within one of London’s most established connectivity hubs, so the work needs someone who understands controlled environments, live services, client operations and the pressure of keeping critical infrastructure properly protected while upgrades are delivered.

This is not a blank-sheet new build where everything happens in isolation.

You’ll be dealing with electrical infrastructure upgrades, capacity improvements, data hall works, power distribution, containment, resilience, commissioning and handover in a live data centre setting.

The role

You’ll take responsibility for the electrical delivery of data centre upgrade works from pre-commencement through to successful practical completion.

That means managing safety, programme, technical delivery, commercial performance, subcontractors, procurement, client reporting and close-out.

The work is expected to involve LV distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, generator interfaces, busbar, containment, cabling, lighting, small power, fire and security interfaces, BMS / EMS integration, testing, commissioning support and live environment coordination.

You’ll be working closely with senior management, project teams, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, commercial staff, client representatives and specialist suppliers to make sure the electrical package is delivered safely, correctly and profitably.

What you’ll be doing
  • Managing electrical works across a live Docklands data centre environment.
  • Taking projects from pre-commencement and mobilisation through to installation, commissioning, handover and defects close-out.
  • Reviewing project scope, installation methods, drawings, technical submissions, RAMS, programme requirements and client expectations.
  • Driving strong health and safety leadership across all project activities.
  • Managing electrical infrastructure upgrades, LV distribution, switchgear, UPS interfaces, generator interfaces, containment, cabling, lighting, fire, security and controls interfaces.
  • Coordinating subcontractors, supervisors, engineers and specialist suppliers across live and controlled work areas.
  • Managing procurement, materials, access, logistics, permits, labour and short-term planning.
  • Working closely with the commercial team to manage cost, value, risk, opportunity, change and subcontractor performance.
  • Producing client progress reports, internal project reports, contract reviews and accurate project data.
  • Maintaining control of programme forecasts, cost forecasts, risks, issues and commercial position.
  • Supporting commissioning, witness testing, energisation, snagging, O&M production and final handover.
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Making sure QA records, test sheets, commissioning information and close-out documentation are completed properly.
  • Representing the business professionally with clients, internal teams, subcontractors and third parties.
What you’ll need
  • You’ll need strong electrical project management experience within data centres, critical environments, M&E contracting, commercial fit-out, infrastructure or technically demanding building services projects.
  • Data centre experience would be a strong advantage, especially if you have worked on live site upgrades, data hall works, LV distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, generator interfaces, busbar, containment, structured cabling, security systems, BMS / EMS interfaces or commissioning-heavy projects.
  • You should be confident managing projects from pre-start through to completion, with responsibility for safety, programme, subcontractors, commercial performance, client reporting and handover.
  • You’ll need to understand how live data centre upgrades are delivered. Access, permits, shutdowns, energisation, client operations, security procedures and commissioning all need to be planned properly.
  • A strong electrical background is essential. You may come from a trade, HNC / HND, degree or equivalent building services background, but you must be able to hold your own technically on electrical delivery.
  • You’ll need strong leadership skills and the ability to manage project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and customer relationships properly.
  • SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely, CSCS and ECS accreditation would be useful.
The right person
  • You're organised, commercially aware and technically credible.
  • You can deal with the client, push subcontractors, challenge technical issues, support the site team and keep a clear grip on safety, programme, cost and quality.
  • You understand that live data centre work is different from standard commercial M&E. The access is tighter, the services are more critical and small mistakes can create major disruption.
  • You do not wait for problems to escalation. You walk the job, understand what is happening, deal with issues early and keep the project moving.
