Job summary

Avove Utilities is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer in Derby with hybrid working between office/site and home. You will support design, construction and commissioning phases, working with Project and Site Managers to meet deadlines and budgets.

The role requires MEICA and electrical safety expertise, with on-site problem solving and procurement support, ensuring compliance with HSQE requirements and relevant standards.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with industrial electrical systems across maintenance, projects, or operations.
• Knowledge of MEICA projects and process control in water/wastewater environments.
• Understanding of hydraulic, pumping and pressurised systems.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in engineering activities and monitor progress.
• Ensure correct material specifications, procurement, and material schedules.
• Provide on-site support to resolve engineering issues and support quality and safety.
• Assist with procurement, H&S documentation and commissioning procedures.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, standards and HSQE requirements.
• Prepare project documentation including RAMS, SWPs and forecast input.
• Coordinate with clients and subcontractors on H&S audits and inspections.
• Support site activities to maintain programme and QA/ITP compliance.

Job description

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an Electrical Project Engineer to join our Severn Trent Water Framework.

Location: Derby (we offer hybrid working with a split between office/site and home)

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will support the design, construction, and commissioning phases of projects, working closely with Project and Site Managers to ensure delivery is achieved in line with programme deadlines and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Project Manager in managing engineering activities and monitoring progress against the project plan.
• Ensure correct material specifications, timely procurement, and maintain material schedules.
• Provide on-site support to resolve engineering issues and support quality and safety support.
• Assist with procurement, H&S documentation and commissioning procedures.
• Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, company standards, and HSQE requirements.
• Prepare project documentation including procurement schedules, RAMS, SWPs, with input into programmes and Forecasting
• Coordinate with clients and subcontractors on H&S audits and inspections.
• Support site activities to maintain programme and QA/ITP compliance.
• Apply basic NEC contract knowledge (time, cost, EWNs) and contribute to quality planning.

Skills and Experience:

• Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience working with industrial electrical systems across maintenance, projects, or operational environments.
• Strong understanding of MEICA projects, gained through a design, delivery, or commissioning background.
• Process knowledge within water and/or wastewater treatment, including process control principles.
• Working knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, quality monitoring equipment, and manual and actuated valves.
• Understanding of hydraulic, pumping, and pressurised systems.
• Strong commitment to electrical safety, compliance, and industry best practice.
• LV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status is desirable.
• Alternatively, the capability and ambition to progress through the Severn Trent LV SAP Authorisation Programme.
• Proficient in Microsoft Project, with experience developing project programmes and cost plans.
