Electrical Project Engineer

Overview

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to join our renewables team. The role involves designing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including plant layout, hardware selection, system optimization, and electrical engineering leadership. The engineer will coordinate with project leads and senior engineers, oversee junior staff, and may supervise interns or new graduates. This position is primarily in-office, with potential locations in Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Madison, WI; and Plano, TX.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead electrical engineering for commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
  2. Manage electrical scope, verify design integration, and coordinate change orders.
  3. Ensure project deliverables are met on schedule.
  4. Coordinate with civil, geotechnical, structural engineers, and surveyors.
  5. Create electrical designs and construction documents.
  6. Perform electrical calculations such as short circuit, load flow, and voltage drop.
  7. Coordinate with clients, utilities, and code officials.
  8. Perform QA/QC on design work by junior staff.
  9. Stay updated on equipment and industry practices.
  10. Support construction through RFIs and submittal reviews.
  11. Mentor interns and engineers.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Renewable Engineering.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NESC codes.
  • Experience with electrical power system modeling software.
  • 3-7 years in electrical design for distribution, generation, or construction.
  • Ability to read and create construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills and technical report writing.
  • Experience managing project data and reporting.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects.
  • AutoCAD proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PV/wind plant design and construction.
  • NABCEP Certification.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency.
  • Electrical PE license or eligibility.
  • Experience with energy storage systems.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, DigSilent PowerFactory.
  • Experience with PV modeling software like PVSyst, Helioscope.
  • Knowledge of power system transient/dynamic modeling.
Compensation

Range: $90,000 - $105,000 per year.
