Job description

Electrical Product Engineer

Annual Salary: £45,000-£50,000pa dependent on experience
Location: Bedfordshire, LU4
Job Type: Full-time

Reed Engineering are working with a well-established, thriving manufacturer and distributor of electrical products who are looking for someone to join them as an Electrical Product Engineer. This role is ideal for someone passionate about developing and enhancing electrical products, ensuring they meet high standards and regulations.

Day-to-day of the role:
  1. Develop electrical products in liaison with manufacturing partners, establishing product specifications, writing product briefs, determining applicable standards and assessing samples.
  2. Test and/or coordinate the external testing of products in development, investigating any product problems.
  3. Establish product and packaging labelling and marking requirements including packaging labels, product instruction leaflets and data sheets.
  4. Collaborate with the Quality Team to investigate product problems, report findings and manage product improvements with partner factories.
  5. Ensure products comply with relevant BS EN safety standards and directives including EMC, REACH, and RoHS.
  6. Produce and maintain technical literature including product specifications, packaging specifications, instruction leaflets, and data sheets.
  7. Maintain up-to-date technical support files, including WEEE and packaging weight data.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Educated in an Engineering discipline with an electrical or electronics bias.
  2. An appreciation of manufacturing processes, product standards and taking a quality approach to problem-solving.
  3. Able to identify product features and benefits.
  4. Knowledge of electrical product application and electrical installation, including work practices on building sites would be beneficial.
  5. Ideally, knowledge of British/European Standards and legislation that relates to products within the company's portfolio.
  6. Experience in collaborating with offshore factories remotely.
  7. Ideally, knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations.
  8. Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
