This role involves frequent travel primarily within the southern part of the region, from Scunthorpe to Northampton, with Peterborough centrally located.

Our Electrical Power & Cooling Engineers are essential to keeping BT’s networks operating 24/7, 365 days a year. They utilize their expertise in Low and High Voltage systems, generators, emergency lighting, cooling, alarms, and UPS systems to ensure continuous operation of the BT estate. Working across various environments including exchange buildings, radio sites, rooftops, and outdoors, they support electrical power systems and cooling equipment crucial for maintaining network connectivity across the UK. They are vital in meeting strict SLAs, taking ownership of their patches, and coaching colleagues.

A comprehensive technical training pathway is provided, covering maintenance activities through a mix of face-to-face, virtual, internal, and external training, which may involve overnight stays and travel.

As part of the role, you will contribute to out-of-hours callouts by participating in a formal On Call Framework (typically 1 in 4 attendance), supporting 24x7 service as required. This will be arranged during the training period.

A full UK manual driver’s license is required for this role.

What you'll do

Key Decisions:

  • Identify & proactively report HSE/Compliance/Design issues to our Power Environmental or Power Technical Support teams.
  • Own designated patches and sites, contributing to area, regional, and unit objectives.
  • Share best practices and support colleagues in applying new ideas, technologies, or processes.
  • Take responsibility for critical network repair, provision, and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate work priorities with patch managers and senior colleagues to align with team objectives.
  • Conduct risk assessments for health and safety.
  • Report issues and risks to senior staff to facilitate improvements.
  • Proactively seek to increase personal skills to support team efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve work processes within and beyond the team.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with required standards, including health surveillance, and maintain professional appearance in corporate clothing.
What you'll bring

Must meet physical requirements such as bending, stretching, kneeling, crouching, climbing, working at various heights, lifting heavy objects, and recognizing coloured wiring.

Mandatory experience/qualifications:

  • Electrical competency City & Guilds 2360 parts 1+2 or equivalent NVQ or industry qualification
  • BTEC Electrical Engineering Level 3/HNC/HND/MOET Level 3/ET Level 3 or equivalent
  • Full UK manual driving license

Preferred experience/qualifications:

  • 18th Edition Regulations or current electrical regulations
  • Experience with Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
  • F-GAS category 1 certification
  • Experience repairing and maintaining Air Conditioning Split systems
  • Experience working with DC power systems
  • Coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience
