Job summary

Contek Recruitment is representing our client in Kings Norton, Birmingham, for an electrically biased Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team. You will perform fault finding, maintenance and improvements to ensure reliable production equipment and minimise downtime in a manufacturing setting.

The role requires hands-on control of electrical systems, PLC awareness and collaboration with contractors, with on‑call duties and occasional travel. 40 hours per week, 8:00am–4:30pm in general.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer in manufacturing/industrial settings.
• Strong electrical bias with fault finding and maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of motors, electrical controls, machinery and production equipment.
• Experience with planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
• Understanding of PLC-controlled systems.
• Ability to diagnose faults methodically under pressure.
• Knowledge of electrical safety requirements and industrial health and safety practices.
• Experience working with contractors and equipment improvement projects.
• Flexible, hands-on approach focused on reliability and uptime.
• Relevant electrical or maintenance engineering qualifications advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical fault finding, diagnosis and repairs on production machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
• Carry out planned maintenance, servicing and scheduled activities.
• Maintain and improve electrically driven machinery and control systems.
• Undertake electrical installations, testing and commissioning where required.
• Support mechanical and pneumatic maintenance activities.
• Assist PLC fault finding and modifications to automated equipment.
• Ensure safety compliance and accurate maintenance records.
• Coordinate with external contractors and on-site service providers.
• Participate in engineering improvement projects and on-call rota.
• Follow health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
• Occasional travel to customer sites or training.
