Job summary

Holcim UK is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to maintain electrical systems and safety‑critical control systems across our site, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and Holcim standards. The role offers hands‑on exposure to modern automated systems and PLC‑controlled equipment, with opportunities to mentor apprentices and contribute to site improvements.

Qualifications

  • Time‑served electrical apprenticeship.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds 2382).
  • Strong understanding of functional safety and machinery safety‑related control systems.
  • Experience with motor control systems, VFD/DC drives and cable sizing.
  • Knowledge of weighing systems (e.g., load cells).
  • Ability to read and maintain technical drawings and control panel designs.
  • IT literacy and ability to maintain digital records.
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking electrical work in accordance with UK legislation and company safe working procedures.
  • Performing fault finding on automated plant and electrically driven machinery.
  • Maintaining and modifying PLC‑controlled equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Conducting root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Supporting process improvements and energy reduction initiatives.
  • Maintaining electrical diagrams, circuit schedules and technical documentation.
  • Ensuring safety‑related control systems for machinery are maintained and compliant.
  • Delivering timely completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Supporting mentoring and development of apprentices.
  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and operational reliability.

The Opportunity

Working on a 4 on 4 off days only rotation.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working knowledge of PUWER
  • Engineering Technician (TechEng) status
  • IET membership
  • Training in risk assessment, working at height, manual handling and incident investigation
