Job summary

SER-IN in Lockerbie is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy engineering team. You will maintain a wide range of automated production machinery and industrial electrical equipment, carrying out planned maintenance and reactive repairs to maximise plant reliability.

The role requires experience in manufacturing or heavy industry, with strong fault-finding skills on motors, drives, control panels and PLC-controlled systems. Excellent teamwork and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in manufacturing, production or industrial maintenance.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with motors, drives, control panels and industrial electrical systems.
  • Basic PLC knowledge is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Respond to electrical breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults.
  • Maintain and repair motors, drives, control panels, sensors, switchgear, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Fault-find on Siemens and Schneider PLC-controlled machinery; assist with PLC modifications.
  • Carry out workshop repairs and on-site maintenance.
  • Work safely in accordance with permit systems and risk assessments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards.

The Role

We're looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at our client's Lockerbie site, maintaining a wide range of automated production machinery and industrial electrical equipment.

Reporting to the Shift Engineering Supervisor, you'll carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and breakdown response across a fast-paced production environment, helping maximise plant reliability and minimise downtime.

This role would suit someone from manufacturing, heavy industry, agricultural engineering, plant maintenance, quarrying, mining or similar hands-on mechanical backgrounds.

About You

We're keen to speak with candidates who have practical electrical engineering experience.

Ideally you'll have:

  • A recognised Electrical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (time served also eligible)
  • Experience within manufacturing, production or industrial maintenance
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with motors, drives, control panels and industrial electrical systems
  • Basic PLC knowledge or awareness (programming experience beneficial but not essential)
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team

Shift Pattern

Rotating weekly:

Early Shift

Monday-Friday
5:30am-2:30pm

Back Shift

Monday-Friday
2:00pm-10:30pm

Night Shift

Monday-Thursday
7:00pm-6:00am

  • Paid 30-minute break
  • Night shift includes an additional paid 15-minute break

Overtime & Bonus

Regular overtime is available, particularly Saturdays (6:00am-2:00pm).

Overtime rates:

  • First 5 hours: Time and a Half
  • Thereafter: Double Time

Employees also benefit from a production bonus (if production targets are hit), paid every six months, with a minimum payment of £250.
