Overview

Electrical Inspector – Commercial Test & Inspection (2391)

Location: Portsmouth PO2 8PL (regional coverage – you’ll become part cartographer, part compliance guru)

Salary: Approx £38,000 base, PLUS bonuses (OTE £45–55k), a fully expensed company van, and solid benefits

Hours: Normal working hours are days, however there are requirements for unsocial working to accommodate customer needs.

PTSG is an industry leading safety specialist operating across five areas. This advert focuses on our specialist Electrical Safety division (PTSG ES, Guardian Electrical, Electrical Compliance and Safety).

PTSG ES specialises in fixed wire test & inspection (EICRs) of commercial and industrial premises. Whether that’s a school, hospital, office block, retail unit, or something else, no two days are the same.

We are continuing to grow and are tendering for more work. To support this, we’re looking to increase Test & Inspection (2391) engineers. This is a role with financial security and potential for personal development and career progression.

Responsibilities

• Run full-scale inspections and tests on commercial and industrial fixed wiring and switchgear, and compile EICRs that actually matter
• Identify issues, log findings, and explain what needs fixing in clear, non-bureaucratic language
• Use testing gear and reporting software with precision and efficiency
• Work independently, adapt daily, and stay composed when sites present challenges
• Maintain knowledge of EICR standards (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations, City & Guilds credentials) to keep everything above board

Qualifications and Experience

• Approximately three years of similar experience (Test & Inspect, remedial repairs, or compliance-heavy work)
• City & Guilds 2391-52 (or equivalent), NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition certificate
• Full UK driving licence
• Detail-focused, self-starting, professional with forward-thinking mindset
