Job summary

Babcock is seeking an Electrical Fitter to maintain, repair and inspect electrical systems at HMNB Clyde near Helensburgh. Based onsite, you’ll support critical defence infrastructure and work within a skilled engineering team to ensure high availability of essential assets.

You’ll interpret engineering drawings, perform fault-finding, and follow rigorous safety procedures while contributing ideas for improved performance and efficiency in a demanding coastal environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in marine/industrial electrical maintenance.
• Able to work at height and in confined spaces.
• Interpret electrical drawings and perform fault-finding.
• Maintain high engineering standards and safety.
• COSHH and risk assessments experience.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned preventive maintenance and inspections across Shiplift systems.
• Diagnose faults and rectify issues to maximise availability.
• Follow established engineering processes and suggest improvements.
• Work safely following health and safety legislation and control of work procedures.
• Support maintenance activities across the wider estate when required.

The role

As an Electrical Fitter, you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and inspecting electrical systems and equipment within the Shiplift Facility. Your work will directly support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical defence infrastructure, helping ensure essential assets remain available when they are needed most.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated work across Shiplift systems and equipment.
• Identifying, diagnosing and rectifying faults, defects and equipment issues to maximise operational availability.
• Following established engineering processes while contributing ideas to improve performance, efficiency and productivity.
• Working safely in accordance with health and safety legislation, safe systems of work and control of work procedures.
• Supporting maintenance activities across the wider estate when required.

This is a full-time, permanent position, based onsite at HMNB Clyde.

Essential experience of the Electrical Fitter:

• Experience within a marine, industrial engineering or electrical maintenance environment.
• Confidence working at height, in confined spaces and in varied weather conditions.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and undertake fault-finding activities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality engineering standards.
• Experience of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work, alongside excellent teamwork skills.

Qualifications for the Electrical Fitter:

• Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ, City & Guilds equivalent), or HNC or above in an Electrical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
